Driving to the Sacred Valley

Okay, it seems like the internet situation has improved! Yay!  I'll schedule these out so you don't get ten million posts at once. :)

After we landed in Cuzco, we got on the bus to our hotel in the Sacred Valley.  It was a two hour bus ride over some pretty steep and bumpy roads.  I'm so glad that we had experienced bus driver, because the bus would have flown off a cliff five minutes in if I were in charge of driving it.  The mountains are VERY steep and the roads are extremely narrow.

We were all pretty well drunk with exhaustion.  Our flight form Miami left at 2 AM, and we did not get into the town with our hotel until about noon.  On the way, our tour guide Carlos pointed out some interesting things, including huge trucks filled with grass driving around.  He said the grass was for the guinea pigs.

Guinea pigs are a big part of the Peruvian diet.  They are easy to raise, eat grasses that are abundant everywhere, and provide a lot of protein.  He said that we would see them for sale on the street at some point during this trip.

We did make a few stops along the way to see the scenery.

This picture does not really do it justice.
We are dead on our feet here.

We stopped for lunch, and I'm sure it was delicious, but I only have a vague memory of actually eating.  We also stopped at a mini-mart where we bought a gigantic jug of water.  The water here is not safe to drink, so Kirk and I like to have plenty of bottled on hand.

The hotel was gorgeous!  It's surrounded by green mountains and right near the Amazon river! There were two resident alpacas who were much more interested in eating grass than anything that we had to offer. Kirk took a video, but I'm going to have to upload them later.  The internet has improved, but not quite *that* much!

Once we got to our hotel, everyone crashed.  We all slept very well.  Next up: The Pisaq Ruins!
